The GBU-39 Small Diameter Bomb - the future of ultra-surgical air strikes.

Since the days of the first Gulf War, when it became clear to the world that precision air strikes would be the “go to” option for the opening rounds of nearly any theater scale military operations, the technology of precision guided munitions has increased rapidly.  We have witnessed bombs being guided into their targets by lasers, GPS, and even a human watching through a camera on the nose of the weapon.  Once the concept of precision guidance was no…

Transformers07So basically the Transformers movie is pretty bad ass, and it also is like a 2.5 hour commercial for the US Military. Not like there’s anything wrong with that, but the media has, since even before the release of the movie, been debating the pros and cons of the heavily laden promotional content paid for by either US defense contractors such as Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT], General Dynamics [NYSE: GD], Boeing Co. [NYSE: BA], and Force Protection Inc. [NYSE: FRPT] or even simply the US Armed Forces themselves. I believe that there is one very notable point…

The following video of the F-22 shows some of the maneuvers that this Jet is capable of.

The F22 is capable of vertical flight and very high angle of attack maneuvers. Although the F22 boasts some incredible maneuvers:

The F-22 can’t maneuver as well as the Su-37, but it is stealthier, since you can’t have both stealth and maneuverability. Our commanders and generals think that stealth is infinitely more important than maneuverability.

The F-22 Raptor exemplifies the very pinnacle of air superiority. Decades of research have contributed to the ground-up design of this plan that was forged from the outer limits of chemistry, aerodynamics, materials science, and engineering. The F-22 Raptor was the first jet designed completely by computer before a model was fabricated. The design incorporated a concept known as continuous curvatures, and when combined with the RAM radar absorbent skin of the aircraft; enemy radar waves simply flow past like water. The continuous curvature is clearly visible in the F-22 when compared with the…

F-22A Raptor - The Future of Air Superiority - F22 Video

Posted by Andrew On April - 1 - 2007

Manufacturer: Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT]

The FA-22 Raptor is a symbol of Future Firepower. The Raptor encompasses advanced avionics, a very maneuverable airframe, and the ability to cruise at supersonic speeds without the use of an afterburner which increases it’s effective range. The F-22 can internally carry two 1,000 pound-class Joint Direct Attack Munitions or JDAM’s, along with a variety of air-to-air missiles. By carrying all of it’s munitions internally, the F-22 reduces it’s drag and adds to its stealth capabilities. The raptor can acquire targets and engage multiple targets simultaneously before the enemy aircraft…
