see, the reason people put the F-22 Raptor as the best jet is because they do not know the capabilities of the F-35 JSF….maybe they should actually do some friggin research….try wikipedia….

Sorry the F-35JSF just can’t compare to the F-22 Raptor especially when handling multiple enemy fighters.

The F-35 has amazing capabilities but the F-22 is more capable for combat/ dogfights.

The F-22 is not designed for dogfighting. It is designed to take the enemy out from distance without the enemy knowing what hit them, that’s not to say that it cant dogfight, just that it shouldn’t be needed too.

The best dogfighter at the moment is the Typhoon, as that’s what it was designed for.

the F-22 should be able to dogfight in case a sneak attack doesnt work. too bad so few of them being made. since it has decent stealth characteristics, does that mean enemy missles cant lock onto it?

deeming what is the best fighter aircraft is absolutly retarded based on the fact that each aircraft produced has a different mission. to properly classify a jet as the best it would have to be judged in its specific classification I.E. multirole, bomber,air supremacy.

also being a crew cheif in the usaf i realized the best aircraft is one your not working on

first of all: “Wikipedia?” second. The problem isn’t realizing that we need updated weapons and more of them. The problem is $$$$$$$$$$. Maybe if some people in this country stopped taking advantage of the system and went out and found a job and payed their taxes; and if the current administration got their priorities in order we could afford to ensure future protection for our country and it’s people. The US had to decommision half of it’s B-52 fleet in order to afford 1 more F22. But unfortunately in this day in age we don’t prioritize anything right. i.e. supermodels and pro atheletes making more in one day than a teacher makes in a year.

To answer the poll though, I say none of the above. Although many of these aircraft have awesome capabilities. The best fighter is the one where no one dies if it gets shot down. UAVs provide the ability to strike the enemy without putting our american heros at risk.

the speed of a jet-fighter in dogfight situation is frequently near supersonic (the advantage of the height, to reach that advantage you need to climb fast you need speed an thrust for that). There is no way to fight an enemy fighter just with your eyes at those speeds hence modern dogfighting relies on radar and avionics. Stealth is not just in a BVR scenario a useful tool. I see a big advantage for the F-22A even in the close-in combat…

For now the F-22 remains the best…

But i’m considering the Typhoon’s future capability of carrying CFTs, the using of TVC (in development), and AESA radar. With the CFT it’s range would match the other guys even more. Without the TVC the Typhoon is even one of the most maneuverable fighters today, and with it! probably it would be the most agile… The future AESA Captor radar i think will just match other’s AESA leap!

The Su-37 is my favorit!
It is agile with unique maneuver wich the other don’t just have! The speed, the payload, range, the configuration, etc. just love it!
If just the Terminator got at least a reduced RCS airframe design as we seen on Typhoon, or F/A-18 E/F, or Rafale. Also, with 5th generation configurations, I think it would be the best!

Right now, the best is the F-35, mainly because it is a JSF

The F-22 is pathetic compared to the F-35 during close combat because the f-22 is designed for taking out targets from far away without being detected. The f-35 can even hover like a helicopter! They are designed for close range. Pilots who fly the f-22 are probably just some noobs who are scared to go into battle.
