During Iran’s recent “Holy Prophet War Games”, which commenced last year on March 31, 2006, Iran revealed the Fajr-3, a ballistic missile that has MIRV capabilities. MIRV is short for Multiple-Launched Independently Targeted Reentry Vehicle, which basically means that the ballistic missile carries several warheads that can each attack a different target upon reentry into the atmosphere. This news represents the potential of an extreme scenario, assuming that Iran does acquire nuclear weapons, it actually could render a close neighbor, close because the Fajr-3 is only a medium range missile, “wiped off the map”. This picture displays the reentry of an American Peacekeeper ICBM, which can carry many more warheads than the Fajr-3, which can only carry 3, yet it illustrates the destructive potential of just 1 MIRV missile in the hands of a nuclear power. Each streak from the sky represents a nuclear warhead that has been assigned its own target, a bleak scenario for whomever this weapon is targeted upon. Likewise, Iran has claimed that it’s Fajr-3 is undetectable by radar, implying that an anti-missile defense system would be unable to locate the missile. The west has speculated that this claim is likely a bluff, because the Aegis radar system is capable of detecting missiles the second they are launched.
