X-51 Hypersonic Cruise Missile - Fastest Cruise Missile

Posted by Capt. On May - 17 - 2007

Imagine having the ability to strike anywhere in the world within one hour. The X-51 is an amazing hypersonic cruise missile that travels 600 miles in just ten minutes (approximately 3600 MPH or Mach 5).

x 51 cruise missile

Compared with the Tomahawk Missile which travels at a mere 550 MPH, the X51 gives the US the ability to strike enemies quickly before they can evade. As U.S. Strategic Command’s deputy commander Lt. Gen. C. Robert Kehler puts it, the goal of the X51 is “to strike virtually anywhere on the face of the Earth within 60 minutes.”

The power of this weapon once it reaches its unfortunate target is amazing.

Traveling as fast as 13,000 mph, the warheads are filled with scored tungsten rods with twice the strength of steel. Just above the target, the warheads detonate, showering the area with thousands of rods-each one up to 12 times as destructive as a .50-caliber bullet. Anything within 3000 sq. ft. of this whirling, metallic storm is obliterated.

The X-51 Will be the most advanced cruise / long distance missile in the world when it is completed, although there have been protests that the X-51 could trigger a nuclear war. A test run of this weapon in 2008 could appear to be heading toward another nuclear power during portions of its flight pattern which could be provoking. This sounds like a emense inprovement to the existing Tomahawk cruise missile. What gives me chills and probally the enemy too is that fact that it can strike anywhere in under a hour. The fact that it can travel over 13000 miles per hour is crazy. Thats faster than mach 10. This could just be one of our most destructive missiles yet. Russia has no chance to defend against this or any other super power in the world

  6. Rob Said,

    Hello Me again,

Just noticed you mentioned mach 10, that’s the speed the warheads hit at, the actual missile will do mach 5.
Though I’m sure yours will be better as far as targeting and warheads are concerned, which for me being a Brit, is a good thing! (we might even be able to afford one, maybe even two!!)

As Rob said, Indian Russian coaboration Brahmos will beat X-51 with Mac 5.26 in the new Brahmos II. So plan something more…

I’m an indian. I do feel proud of brahmos 2, but the latest test has shown that brahmos 1 relies on gps to locate and hit its target, so in a face off, though travelling at mach 5.2. The indian missile would miss its target, while x-51 would be bang on. The eventuality of any long range cruise missile to surpass american made ones in deterence would be to rely on an independent Gps than an american one.

Someone might want to point out the range of a brahmos cruise missile… about 180 miles the last I checked. Have fun hitting Pakistan with your makeshift warhead on a jet engine

well check out this link http://www.zeenews.com/nation/2009-04-06/521027news.html next version of brahmos will reach 8 mach. American economy is so down to dogs they need money to pay pension and benefits. They will need to stop all their defence expenditures. No wonder Mr Obama is running here and there asking for nuclear free world. It was USA who built that weapon it is only and only USA who used that weapon. I have nothing against USA, I love USA and its democracy and american dream of freedom. But what you have done in past is going to haunt you. All bragging and boasting by japan and USA together from last few days came out nothing, north korea enjoyed their ballistic testing. What more can I say, USA also losing its diplomacy credibility in world. Well folks if Obama really wants nuke free world he better start in his backyard because really no can is willing to trust USA expect your foreign territorial islands of brits and japanese.

Its amazing how all this conventional weapons would fail against China, Russia or any country who has scalar weapons. Scalar weapons will make any conventional, nuclear weapons obsolete. Before, you say that I don’t know what I’m talking about. I want you to google let me spell it Scalar weapons. It was invented by Russia and deployed since 1965. Unfortunately, Russia has sold the technology to whoever has the money. The only thing the United States have is the inferior HAARP. Both scalar and haarp does exactly the same thing. What it does is heats up the upper atmospher called the ionosphere. Let say the United States wants to attack Russia. All it does is heat up the ionesphere around Russia. If an object such as missiles, planes reaches that part of the atmosphere. It will fry any electronics on board a missile, planes or any object and it just fall back down to earth. This is the ultimate defense system. The Russian Scalar system has the capability to protect itself by having an invisible force field around it. However, the U.S. Haarp have to use a missile to protect itself from any harm. Its amazing all this wasteful spending on weapons system thats already obsolete. Here’s a great website to learn about any weapons system in existence. http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net

  17. Philip Vardakis Said,

The X-51 technology is a good step in the right direction. Still, the USA is trying to fight this war against terrorism on the cheap. If we were as serious about protecting this country and the free world as the terrorists’ desire to kill innocent lives, then we would have increased our defense budget 25%, and rapidly accelerated the development and deployment of X-51-and other systems capable of wreaking catastrophic, non-nuclear devastation.

Regrettably, it’s going to take another 911-type attack to finally get Americans to realize that no financial sacrifice is too great to destroy our enemies-including the total destruction of all nation states that support terrorism. Let’s begin by making examples out of Iran and Syria-and incinerating both these countries for their direct support of terrorism.

Time and history will prove me correct-unfortunately. May God bless and protect the United States of America-the world’s Shining City and Beacon of Hope.

  18. Bhushan Said,

Only X-51 I have heard of is a Boeing plane (still in the development phase) that is projected to travel at Mach 7. I wonder why would they put 13000 mph here, and the data provided here itself is very confusing and self contradictory at times. Anyway, if this report, by any chance, is true, it won’t be just to compare it with BrahMos. BrahMos (lab test speed of Mach 5.6) has a range of merely 180 miles (co-developed by Russia and India, where Russia is MTCR signatory, so couldn’t help produce anything of longer range) and the missile talked about here is an ICBM, so certainly with BrahMos it is not a worthy comparison. Also, all Indians should keep in mind that BrahMos is one of the fastest missiles, not exactly the fastest one. I am an Indian.

ya x-51 is a good missile but don,t compare brahmos2. it is also a hypersonic missile.
